  • Nothing has released a public beta of Nothing Launcher.
  • This will be the default launcher for the upcoming Nothing Phone 1.
  • So far, there aren’t a lot of triggers, but it does give a glimpse of things to come.

Earlier this year, new Carl Pei Nothing officially announced its intention to launch its first smartphone in 2022. none phone 1 It doesn’t have a release date yet, but we now have our first look at how it works when it’s out of the box.

When you first install Nothing Launcher, you are presented with a fairly standard design. You have four icons in the dock, on top of it is the Google search tool, and then two more icons on top of it. The default wallpaper is objectively bad because it blurs the icon labels and makes the status bar pretty much unreadable. If you want to change the wallpaper, you can long press on an empty section of the home screen, press wallpaper and elegance and then Select a new wallpaper. However, all it does is take you to your phone’s default wallpaper picker, in my Samsung case.

There are also quite a few things that you can change once you are in the Settings section. You can choose to automatically add new apps to the home screen or toggle notification dots on/off on icons. This is.

The app drawer is also incredibly basic with a soft gray background and icons with black text labels. There is a search bar at the top that only searches apps and nowhere else.

There are quite a few interesting widgets on offer, including analog clock, digital clock, and weather information. Each one uses a “none dots” or black/red/white branding design. Outside of design, though, the widgets don’t do anything special.

All in all, nothing quite anemic launcher. This is obviously just a beta version, so it will get better over time. If nothing really hoped to dazzle people out of the gate, this would likely cause people to be disappointed more than anything.
