New York Police said Jesse Armstrong, 41, was arrested and charged with murder on Sunday. It is not clear if Armstrong has legal representation.

The appeal comes amid a spike in crime rates, with the city reporting a 42.7% increase in major crimes compared to the same period in 2021, according to statistics from the New York Police Department on April 24, including a 46.7% increase in thefts. 54% increase in major theft incidents and 14.9% in rape reports. The ministry said there were also plans to add “violence reduction coordinators” in each city district.
