Prosecutor says suspect planned to rape and murder Lily Peters
A preliminary autopsy revealed that 10-year-old Liliana “Lily” Peters had suffered severe trauma and suffocation because her death was ruled a murder.
Chippewa County Coroner Ron Patten confirmed the details to independent On Thursday, he said the full autopsy report is not expected for several more weeks.
Preliminary findings support the account of events presented in court on Wednesday, in which a 14-year-old boy was held on $1 million bail on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree sexual assault and first-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors said the teen, who knew his victim, drove Lilly along a walking path near her aunt’s house where he allegedly punched her in the stomach, knocked her to the ground, beat her with a stick and strangled her before sexually assaulting her.

Lilly was reported missing by her father that night and her body was discovered on Monday morning near the road.
Court protection of suspect’s identity
Chippewa County District Court Judge Benjamin Lane has ordered that the identity of Lily Peters’ suspected killer be protected due to his age.
In the defendant’s first appearance in court on Wednesday, the judge said he would only be referred to by his initials C PB and that neither he nor any members of the public gallery — which could include the suspect’s family members and the victim’s family members — could be photographed.
Restrictions can change as the case progresses.
Officials said the suspected killer was a 14-year-old boy who knew his victim but declined to confirm whether they were related.
They also declined to comment on whether or not the boy lived in Lily’s aunt’s house. Lilly left the house with her killer and headed along a walking path where she was killed.

A shocking message on Reddit may have helped lead police to the 14-year-old now accused of murdering and sexually assaulting murdered schoolgirl Lily Peters.
On Monday night, Reddit user HomesliceNation4 commented on a thread about the 10-year-old’s death saying he saw a girl who matched Lily’s description of “another child” on a walking trail near where her body was found.
Reddit user wrote: “The scary thing is that I was playing Pokemon Go in the park that day walking along the same path.”
“My stomach turns when I think I saw that girl in a pink/purple hoodie on her bike with another kid on my way out.”
They added, “I suspect it could have been another kid who did it.”
At the time the comment was left, police found Lily dead in a wooded area on the hiking trail.
No arrests were made, there were no suspects in the case, and the police were urging the community to remain vigilant for the possibility of continuing danger.
Lilly was last seen wearing a purple 1/4 zip-up shirt with black pants and gray shoes, according to the missing persons press release.

The 14-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree sexual intercourse, and first-degree sexual practice of a child under the age of 13 resulting in significant bodily harm.
At present he is being charged as an adult because Wisconsin law says that first degree murder charges must be filed first in an adult court if the suspect is 10 years or older. The case can later move to juvenile court.
If convicted as an adult, he faces life imprisonment on the charges.
