Kidnapped child found in California, 3 suspects arrested 2022-04-26 14:08:06

Police said a 3-month-old baby was found snatched from his home in the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday and three suspects have been arrested.

The San Jose Police Department announced on Twitter, without mentioning the child’s whereabouts, that baby Brandon Cuellar had been taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The announcement came shortly after police told reporters that a woman had been detained as a “person of interest” in the case after what authorities described as inconsistencies in her statements to police about the kidnapping. The authorities then said that three suspects had been arrested overall, but did not reveal whether the woman was among the suspects.

On Monday, the child was taken from his San Jose apartment by a man who entered the house and was seen in a video clip walking away with the child in a conveyor.

The detained woman, who has not been identified, was with the child’s grandmother before an unidentified man, Brandon Cuellar, was abducted on Monday by an unidentified man, San Jose Police spokesman Sgt. Christian Camarillo told reporters Tuesday.

“This person was with Grandma yesterday when they went shopping, she was present at the apartment complex when this happened,” he said. “There were some inconsistencies with what you told us. Obviously, it brought our attention to what you know about this.”

Police released a video clip showing the man walking on the sidewalk holding a baby carrier covered in a white blanket.

Police initially tweeted: “The family does not recognize this suspect.”

Camarillo told reporters on Monday that the boy’s grandmother had reported the kidnapping.

“According to Grandma, she came home to this apartment… She took the baby in the apartment, and went down to unload some groceries,” Camarillo said. “In that short period of time someone entered the apartment… and left with the child.”

Brandon was last seen wearing a white, long-sleeved onesie with dinosaurs.
Camarillo said the child’s mother was at work when the kidnapping occurred.

“My dad is now out of the picture. He’s imprisoned. I don’t know, you know, if he’s going to play into this, but obviously we’ll talk to him soon,” Camarillo said.

He said it was hard to tell the man who took the baby because he was wearing a mask.
