  • Huawei launched the foldable Mate XS 2.
  • It uses a foldable design instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable design.
  • It is only available in China at the moment.

The Huawei Mate X Join Samsung Galaxy Fold as the first two foldable phones from major manufacturers. Mate X and Matte XS The follow differed from Samsung’s foldable devices by being foldable designs rather than foldable book-style devices. Now, the company is back with a foldable device as it launched the Huawei Mate XS 2.

The Mate XS 2 actually looks like a more refined version of the Mate X and Mate XS at first glance. There’s this familiar form factor as well as the rear camera housing that doubles as a grip when you open the device.

Perhaps the most notable visual modification is that it now has a punch-hole cutout for the 10.7MP selfie camera on the foldable display. The company has also chosen to use a “3D microfiber” of some sort, as each color variant appears to offer a different texture.

Huawei’s latest foldable phone is equipped with a 7.8-inch 120Hz (8:7.1, 2480 x 2200) foldable OLED display, which folds over to give you a smaller 6.5-inch 19:9 screen. However, there’s no word on additional protection such as glass. Too thin, which is a shame since fold-out screens aren’t as well protected against damage as foldable panels. However, the company suggests that you won’t notice any crease on the foldable panel, while the display also supports stylus input via an optional stylus.

Otherwise, the Mate XS 2 is supported by a file Snapdragon 888 4G SoC, 8GB to 12GB RAM, 256GB to 512GB storage, 4600mAh battery (or 4880mAh for the 12GB/512GB model), and 66W charging. So those hoping for the latest silicon technology, 5G connectivity and wireless charging may be disappointed here.

There’s no word on wider availability just yet, although Huawei is one of the few Chinese brands to occasionally offer foldable devices outside of China. However, it should be noted that the Mate XS 2 will not have Google integration if it is already launched globally.
