Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vowed Friday to fight the Biden administration’s new office of disinformation, insisting that a “department of truth” cannot exist in the United States.

“They want to be able to put forward false narratives without people being able to speak out and fight back,” DeSantis said. “But we are not going to let Biden get away with this, so we will resist.”

But critics, including DeSantis, argued that it was merely an attempt to stifle free speech.

“You can’t have a Ministry of Truth in this country,” DeSantis said.

“We believe it is imperative that Florida and Americans can speak out against the false narratives that are trying to jam our throats with this regime.”

He added, “They won’t be able to say things like Russia’s complicity… They want to be able to advocate for COVID closures. They want to be advocates for school closures… But then when you speak out, they want to stifle dissent.”
