(CNN) – An American family caused chaos at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Thursday when they tried to move an unexploded ordnance through airport security.

And the Israeli airport authorities said in a press statement that the tourists found the shell while they were traveling in the Golan Heights.

Israel occupied the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 war and annexed the narrow strip of land in 1981. The area is considered occupied territory under international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Upon arrival at the airport, American travelers announced the shell to airport security at baggage delivery and airport staff announced an evacuation. A video circulated on social media shows people in a panic, running behind poles, crouching on the ground.

One person was reportedly injured in the accident, an Israeli passenger who ran on the baggage conveyor belt amid the chaos.

Israel Airport authorities confirmed that “after ruling out a security incident, the terminal evacuation was cancelled.”

The American passengers were questioned by airport authorities but were later allowed to board the plane.

The Israeli airport authorities said that the accident was “currently under investigation.” The injured was taken to the hospital.
