Celebrations of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner kick off with an event focused on technology and media 2022-04-28 21:26:00

Technology, media, and political leaders gathered at the annual Bytes and Bylines Gala on Thursday to kick off the return of White House Correspondents’ weekend dinner.

The attendees crowded the residence of the Irish ambassador, and flocked to the outside garden area. Among the crowd were Chasten Buttigieg, Representative Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan), Representative Mark Takano (D-CA), and British Ambassador to the United States Karen Pierce.

Also in attendance were CBS’s Nora O’Donnell, Caitlan Collins and CNN’s Abby Phillip, co-hosted by Allen Janet, Diarra Ballinger, Eric Coon, Susannah Quinn, Sarah Kate Ellis and Stellen Vollands, and sponsored by GLAAD, Town & State.

Irish Ambassador to the United States Daniel Mulhall roasted the journalists in attendance, as well as those around the world who had put themselves in harm’s way to inform the truth at a time of increasing misinformation, and led attendees in a moment’s pause to acknowledge the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine.

Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO of GLAAD, urged journalists to help the organization in its efforts to combat disinformation by holding people accountable for the rhetoric they use and clarifying false narratives.
